Som Tam Salad

Nothing quite says tastes of Thailand than a sweet and spicy salad served with ground roasted peanuts. Yummy!

For those wanting memories of the exotic and wanting to transport themselves back to the islands, here is a delicious Som Tam Salad courtesy of School of Wok.

Recipe for Som Tam Salad

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons of palm sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of tamarind concentrate
  • 4 tablespoons of lime juice
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • Salt
  • 3-4 bird eye chillies
  • 3 tablespoons of roasted peanuts
  • 3 tablespoons of dried prawns
  • 8 quartered cherry tomatoes
  • 4 chopped green beans
  • 1 mango or papaya

Preparation Method

  1. Start by peeling the papaya, then start to slice the fruit into thin matchstick size pieces.
  2. Begin to make the salad dressing, mixing together the palm sugar, fish sauce, tamarind concentrate and 3 tablespoons of lime juice.
  3. Add the garlic, chillies and roasted peanuts with the remaining 1 tablespoon of lime juice and mix well.
  4. Place the previously cut papaya pieces, cherry tomatoes and beans into a large salad bowl.
  5. Stir in the salad dressing and the roasted peanuts with chillies.
  6. To finish, garnish the salad with extra roasted peanuts.
