Homemade- Naan Bread

Whether you like to dip it into your curry or to cover it with cheese and eat it on its own, we have an easy and authentic recipe for you to follow.

Recipe for Homemade- Naan Bread

Ingredients

  • 250g of plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of baking powder
  • 130ml of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

Preparation Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. In another mixing bowl mix together the milk and oil.
  2. In the centre of the flour mixture make a well and slowly pour the milk and oil mixture into the well.
  3. Mix together the ingredients to make dough, work from the centre to include the flour from the edges of the bowl. Once you have mixed together all the ingredients to make a soft dough, knead the ingredients for 8-10 minutes, adding more flour if the dough becomes too sticky.
  4. In an oiled bowl, place the dough and cling film for 10-15 minutes in a warm area. Once you have left the dough to rest, evenly create five same sized dough balls.
  5. Using your Chasseur cast iron saucepan, add baking paper to the inside of the pan and place on the top shelf of a preheated oven to warm up.
  6. While the saucepan is warming in the oven on a medium heat roll out the dough balls into a thin circular shape and place onto the warm baking paper inside of the frying pan. Place into the oven to grill for 2 minutes, or until the naan has turned lightly golden.
  7. Remove the cooked naan before separately cooking the other naan balls. When cooking your naan, you can keep the flavour plain or spice it up by adding different flavours including: poppy seeds, nigella seeds or garlic.
  8. Once your naan has cooked, brush with butter and serve straightaway.
