Homemade Danish Pastry

Ever considered trying your hand at making some deliciously sweet Danish pastries? This easy to follow recipe uses puff pastry, making it easier than ever to get baking.

Recipe for Homemade Danish Pastry

Ingredients

  • 500g of puff pastry
  • 8 tablespoons of jam of your choice
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Caster sugar for dusting

Preparation Method

  1. Start by preheating the oven.
  2. On a lightly floured surface roll the pastry out until you have made a large rectangle which should be about 40 x 20cm in length. With a sharp knife trim, the edges. Take the large rectangle and cut into smaller squares, 8 x 10cm in size.
  3. Using cold water, sprinkle two baking sheets with the water before placing the squares onto the baking sheets.
  4. With the jam of your choice, place a spoonful into the centre of each of your square.
  5. Using the beaten eggs, dab the corners of each square with the egg mix, before folding each corner into the centre of the square so that the four corners meet the jam.
  6. After you have done this to all the squares, use the left over beaten eggs and lightly glaze the pastry before placing into the oven to bake for 15 minutes.
  7. You can tell when the pastry has cooked, as it should have risen and turned golden and crisp.
  8. Using your caster sugar, lightly dust the pastries before serving.
